Here at Grow With Me Speech Pathology we pride ourselves on providing exceptional service to children aged between 0 and 18. We provide a diagnosis and treatment for children with communication disorders. This may manifest as difficulties with speaking, understanding, reading, social skills and speaking fluently.
Upon contacting us, you will receive a client intake form which parents are asked to fill out and return prior to attending your initial consultation. We encourage you to provide any reports from health professionals and/or teachers involved in caring for your child.
Assessment sessions generally last 60 minutes but additional sessions may also be required. During this time, the Speech Pathologist will use a combination of informal and standardised testing to identify the child's strengths and areas of improvement. Once assessment has been conducted a comprehensive report will be provided within two weeks and the therapist, along with the family will create goals based on their needs identified in the assessment. It is at this time that the frequency of therapy will also be determined.

At times, it may be appropriate for the Speech Pathologist to liaise with your child's support team to ensure that therapy is focused on priority areas.
Receptive language is the ability to understand what is said (comprehension).
Expressive language is an individual's communication output. This may be through words, sentences, gesture and writing.
Is the way in which we use our lips, tongue, teeth and jaw to make particular sounds.
Articulation determines how well sounds, words and sentences are produced.
Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) encompasses the multiple ways that individuals can communicate to supplement or compensate for verbal communication. This may include but is not limited to gestures, vocalisations and symbols.
AAC is used by those who cannot rely on their speech.
Dysphagia occurs when there is a problem involved with any part of the swallowing process including chewing and moving food around the mouth.
Sensory feeding difficulties occur when an individuals develops an avoidance to certain foods based on colour, texture, smell and/or taste.
Refers to the way in which we as individuals interact with others. This can include our ability to:
- read and interpret social situations
- develop and maintain friendships
- have conversations with others
- develop self-awareness and self-esteem
Literacy is the fundamental to learning at school. It refers to an individual's ability to read, write, listen, create and communicate using printed and written materials.
Stuttering is characterised by repeated words, sounds or syllables that disrupt the normal rate and rhythm of speech.
